Your Promethean Activclassroom comes with several new and exciting technologies.

Activstudio

Activstudio is the software that unifies all the Promethean board and all of the accessories.  Without this software the board will not even function.  Activstudio is also a tool to create and display flipcharts, which are similar to a PowerPoint presentation.  A big difference between a PowerPoint presentation and a   Promethean flipcharts are unique in that elements of the presentation can be moved, obscured, reveal other elements, copy themselves when they are moved, and perform a variety of other actions.

Activboard

The Activboard is the foundation of your new classroom.  It is similar to other Digital Whiteboards that you previously used; however, the Promethean board only works with the provided pens.

Activpen

The Activpen is one tool that you can use to interact with your Promethean board.  The pen acts like a virtual mouse and has a few quicks of it own.  While the pen hovers a small distance from the board, you can move the mouse pointer around.  Touching the pen to the board will cause the left mouse button to be pressed.  Tapping the board with the pen will simulate a click and holding the pen to the board will act like holding down the mouse button.  Finally, pressing the button on the pen will cause a right click.

Activwand

The Activwand is a long pointer, and it works a bit differently than the pen.  You can still move the pointer around the screen with the wand, but simply tapping the screen will not cause a mouse click to be registered.  The button on the wand must be held pressed to cause a left mouse click.

Activslate

The Activslate is a bit different in that you can use it anywhere in your classroom to control the board.  The slate can be used directly by you so that you can move around your class while using the board.  Or the slate can be passed around the room to your students. 

Tip: Keep your eyes on the board while you use the slate.  Also, the mouse pointer will follow where you move the pen, so if you pick the pen up and move it to the top left of the slate, the mouse pointer will also move to that location on screen.

Activote

The Activote is also known as a student resonse system or a clicker.  You actually get about 30 of these devices, which is enough that each student in a class can have one.  With the Activote, you can display a multiple choice (or a true/false) question on your board, and your students can provide an answer.  The Promethean software will gather all the responses and provide graphical feedback on the students' performance.

You can use the Activotes to poll the students anoyomously, or you can assign a clicker to each student and track their progress.

Activtablet

The Activtablet is a device that you should keep with your laptop.  It allows you to more easily create flipcharts with Activstudio by providing you with a pen and pad that work exactly like the Promethean board.
